The short version

We don't test products ourselves. Every guide on Recs with Bri is built from manufacturer specifications and documentation, verified product details and other public information. We compare products on the criteria that matter for the job, check claims before repeating them, and update guides when things change. Nobody can pay to be included.

Where our information comes from

  • Manufacturer specifications and documentation: official product pages, user manuals, spec sheets and safety information.
  • Product listings: to confirm model details and that the item we describe is the one we link to.
  • Public regulatory records: for example, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's public databases when a product claims FDA clearance.
  • Other reputable public information: such as published standards or guidance from professional and government bodies, where relevant.

Checking we have the right product

Beauty tools often come in near-identical versions with different model numbers, voltages or attachments. Before a product goes into a guide, we match the model number to the manufacturer's documentation and confirm the Amazon product ID (ASIN) we link to points to that same item. If we can't verify it, we leave it out.

How we handle claims

Packaging and product pages are full of claims. We treat them carefully:

  • Regulatory claims get looked up. If a product says it's "FDA-cleared," we check the FDA's public database for a matching clearance before we repeat it. If we can't find one, we don't say it.
  • Results claims are claims, not facts. When a manufacturer says a tool reduces frizz or improves skin texture, we attribute it ("the manufacturer says…") rather than presenting it as proven.
  • We don't give medical advice. For skin conditions, hair loss or anything health-related, talk to a qualified professional.

How we compare products

We compare products on meaningful criteria for each category, such as materials, heat or power settings, size and weight, attachments, ease of cleaning, safety features, voltage and warranty terms. Each guide explains which criteria we used and why they matter for that type of tool.

We deliberately don't list prices, star ratings, review counts or stock status. They change constantly, and showing an outdated number would be misleading. You can always check the current details on Amazon.

Independence and affiliate links

We earn money through affiliate links: if you buy through one of our Amazon links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We don't accept payment for placement, and commissions never decide which products we include or how we describe them. Read the full affiliate disclosure.

Keeping guides current

Products get discontinued, updated or replaced. We review our guides and update them when information changes. Every guide shows a "Last updated" date so you can see how fresh it is.

Report an error

If something looks wrong, like an outdated spec, a mismatched model number or a claim you think we got wrong, please contact us. Tell us which guide and what you spotted. We'll check it and correct the guide if needed.
